Ex-servicemen in Maharashtra to get property tax exemption

Residential properties of former servicemen in Mumbai will now be exempted from property tax. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed to waive property tax of residential properties owned by ex-servicemen, wives of martyrs and parents of unmarried martyrs.

According to the BMC proposal, defence personnel should get relevant certificates from the district Sainik Welfare office to avail the benefits of the scheme or to submit domicile certificate to prove they are living in the the state for the past 15 years.

There are an estimated two lakh former servicemen currently residing in the state.
Eligible persons will get benefit on only one residential property.
